C already wrote about the ministry Covenant Mercies, but I wanted to add a few more thoughts. What really jumped out at me from Doug Hayes' message was his realization of the desire of the African churches to help their own people. So often we don't think in those terms. There are already churches in Africa who have the same—if not greater—burden to help the needy that we do. They are our fellow Christians. The local churches can ensure that the supplies that are shipped over can get to the needy people; the local churches connect the sick with the clinics and medicines; the local churches help families who have already taken in orphans. The will and the ability are already there; it’s just the resources that are lacking. We, on the other hand, aren't over there on the ground. But we can equip those who are.
"The disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea. This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul." Acts 11:29-30
