So, I've recently been discovering the amazing rewards to be found at the Farmer's Market. Yes, I know. It's about time. But, honestly, I went a couple of times last summer and really didn't find too much of interest. Now that I have my own kitchen, things are different....
We went to the P'ville Farmer's Market a week ago and got the most delicious peaches I have ever tasted. It's not a very big market; there's probably only 10 or so vendors, but hey, it's better than nothing, right? The next day, I find out that we're having an office party as a birthday/going away for one of my co-workers. I sign up to bring some veggies, thinking about how great those fresh, Farmer's Market peppers, cucumbers, & tomatos were. Then I realized that the party is actually an entire 4 hours before the next P'ville Farmer's Market! Grr....
I got online and found a Farmer's Market in L'ville that would be held a couple of days before the party. That'll be perfect! So we're driving down the beautiful, windy, country road, and finally see the familiar-looking sign that says "Farmer's Market." We make a quick left turn, and find ourselves in a gravel lot with two other cars, two umbrella stands, and one little tent.
This is the L'ville Farmer's Market??!!!
Um, yeah. It was. Of course, it was much smaller than normal, one of the guys assured me. There was a vendor who got her head banged up at the fair last week, and a couple of vendors were on vacation, and then a few other vendors thought it would be raining and didn't show up. But the faithful few were present!
Instead of the array of fresh vegetables I was hoping to come away with, we left with a pint of blackberries, two cucumbers (that didn't turn out to be very good), two tomatos, and one "pineapple tomato."
We ended up at the grocery store for the vegetables I needed for my party. And I've decided to do better at planning ahead. And the P'ville Farmer's Market looked a whole lot bigger this week than it did last week!
